SCECA Tom Palk Scholarship

Scholarship Application Rules

Tom Palk was part of SCECA leadership for decades and was an advocate for providing education to those involved in the electrical construction industry.

Tom was especially passionate about providing an opportunity for young people to enter this industry with the core skills and knowledge that they require to succeed.

In memory of Tom, this scholarship for one thousand dollars has been made available to applicants who intend to begin a career in the electrical construction industry and who are enrolled in an accredited (post- secondary) vocational or college institution for such electrical industry-related studies.

This scholarship will be awarded to one applicant (each year) based on their submitted essay and applicant requirements. The scholarship amount will be paid directly to the accredited institution where the student is enrolled.

All submissions must be received by March 15,2027 at 6:00pm EST.

The chosen recipient will be notified no later than May 31, 2027.

Application Requirements

Must be between the ages of 17 to 25 years old.
Must be a citizen of the United States of America or have legal immigration status as a lawful permanent resident.
Must reside in either Suffolk or Nassau County, in the State of New York.
Must be pursuing career entry into the electrical construction industry.
Must be enrolled in a NYS accredited (post- secondary) electrical construction industry-related program at the time of receiving the scholarship. If the chosen recipient is not enrolled at such time, then they will be disqualified and the 2nd place runner-up will be chosen as the recipient.
The chosen recipient must personally meet with the Scholarship committee and is required to bring proof of: identity, age, residency, and enrollment. Not meeting with the board and providing the required proof are grounds for disqualification.
All submissions must be received by March 15, 2027 at 6:00pm EST.

The uploaded essay must be type-written and in PDF.
The applicant will answer the following three questions for their essay. Each answer should be no longer than one hundred fifty (150) words. There is no minimum. Please remember that it is the quality of your answer that counts, not how long it is.
